Helping every student EXCEL.
Our belief is that each child is individually and uniquely created by God. Specially trained and certified teachers on the Shannon Forest campus partner with classroom teachers and division principals to support student success.
Below, you will find information for each division in regard to our Excel Program.
Lower School Students (K5-5th Grade)
- Meet with a trained teacher either individually or in a small group.
- The remainder of the time is spent in the regular classroom with accommodations to meet the student's specific needs.
- The Excel program employs a variety of techniques, including the Orton Gillingham approach and other internationally known methodologies to strengthen areas of weakness in perception, cognitive processing, and reading development.
- Accommodations are provided if documentation of a diagnosis such as ADHD, anxiety, or Learning Disabilities is on file.
- Parents are regularly informed of the child’s progress.
Upper School Students (6th-12th Grade)
- Qualifying students can enroll in a Directed Study as an elective.
- During the Directed Study, students meet with trained Excel teachers to enhance organizational skills and learning strategies.
- Accommodations are provided if documentation of a diagnosis such as ADHD, anxiety, or Learning Disabilities is on file.
- May qualify for accommodations on the PSAT, SAT, and/or ACT with the College Board if current documentation is on file and submit information via the SSD Coordinator.
Program fees are based on individual or group assistance. For more information, contact Debbie Irwin, Excel Director at dirwin@firstpresacademy.com.
